NEW DELHI, Mar. 25, 2001 -- One
of these days Oscar fashion will have its very own awards show,
seeing as how what the stars wear is almost as important as who wins
to many of the millions who tune in. Every year brings its share of
fashion winners and sinners, as well as certain signature styles
seen again and again on the red carpet. This year marked a return to
the golden days of Hollywood glamour and stars like Julia
Roberts and Catherine
Zeta-Jones helped make the show more polished and poised than
ever. What were 2001's trends? Which stars wowed the crowd? Let the
fashion show begin!
Black BeautiesNo doubt about it, black is definitely
back, and sleeker, sexier and more elegant than ever.Julia
Roberts, who chooses not to use a stylist, selected a
not-so-basic black vintage Valentino with a dramatic white-striped
train. Catherine Zeta-Jones went strapless.Julie
Andrews and Julie
Walters chose dresses with sleeves, but both looked beautiful in
black. Penelope
Cruz glittered in a Spanish-style Ralph Lauren. Faye
Dunaway looked amazing in a Tom Ford for Gucci satin gown with
sheer neckline. Juliette
Binoche dressed the most dramatically in a '20s flapper-style
Jean-Paul Gaultier sheath jazzed up with strands of pearls and biker
boots (!). But please -- what was with that flyaway hairdo?
 Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael
Douglas show superstar style.

vintage Valentino and Benjamin Bratt went wild for a white
tie.
